High Performance OverviewOverviewCapital Football’s High Performance Programs cater for talented football players from the Australian Capital Territory and the surrounding regions as part of the Football Federation Australia (FFA) National Talented Player Pathway. Developed in line with the FFA National Curriculum, Capital Football offers a number of programs for both male and female players from Under 9 to 17 throughout the course of the year. Capital Football’s High Performance Programs are divided into two separate streams, the Player Development Program and Representative Program. The Player Development Program is for players seeking to further develop their individual playing skills while also learning the 1-4-3-3 playing structure in preparation for possible selection into Representative Squads. Capital Football’s Representative Program is for those players selected to represent Capital Football at FFA National Championships. The Representative Program will also shortly include FFA’s Skill Acquisition Program for talented players between 10 and 13.
FFA National CurriculumThe FFA National Curriculum has been developed to provide a soundly based, consistent, coordinated national Talent Development and Identification program. The National Curriculum provides the frame work for coach and player development for all of Australian Football.
Capital Football’s Technical Director is responsible for the implementation of the National Curriculum for the ACT and surrounding regions. As part of this implementation Capital Football has restructured its player development and representative programs to incorporate the National Curriculum. All training with Capital Football will now follow the principals set out by the curriculum and use exercises and programs developed by FFA.
The National Curriculum also provides a defined pathway for talented male and female players through a series of accredited programs. Capital Football’s provides programs in line with this pathway through its development and representative programs and teams.
Capital Football Player development programThe Capital Football Player Development Program (formerly the Capital Football Academy), is a year round user pay program designed using the FFA National Curriculum to develop individual player skill as well as introduce players to the 1-4-3-3 playing structure to prepare players for possible future representative selection. The Player Development Program (PDP) is divided into a summer and winter phases to provide year round development for identified players. Unlike previous programs where a player was allocated to a squad on their geographic location, development squads will now be ability based. Those players deemed the best technical players in the ACT and surrounding region will be invited to join the Hawker Centre of Excellence Elite Development Squads, while those players wishing to continue their development at a high level may join the Kambah adn Hawker Centre of Development Player Development Squads.
Beginning for the first time in 2011, the Hawker Centre of Excellence Elite Development squads are designed to help develop players for future representative teams, with only the very best players invited to join the program. Initially the Elite Squads will include a combined Under 9 squad, an Under 11 squad for both boys and girls, and an Under 13 Girls squad. In addition to these squads all other Representative Squads will train at the Hawker COE.
While the program is run year round it has been split into two phases (summer and winter), to allow for optimum training opportunities.
The Summer Player Development Program runs from October to March each year with a break over December and January to allow players to participate in the FFA Futsal National Championships. Players will receive up to three training sessions per week during the summer development program as well as the opportunity to play in coached matches and tournaments.
The Winter Player Development Program will run from May to September to compliment normal club training and matches. All squads in winter will train once a week on a Monday night but may also have the opportunity to participate in coaches matches and tournaments. Players participating in the Winter Player Development Program are also encouraged to train and play with a club participating in a Capital Football league.
