Fethon IlerisFethon first joined the Board as a Director in April 2004. He was born in Greece but grew up in Munich in the old West Germany. As a seven year old he played his football with Bayern Munich juniors and recalls the likes of Franz Beckenbauer (der Kaiser), Gerd Müller (the bomber), and Sepp Maier (die Katze from Anzig - "the cat from Anzing") at Bayern who later became superstars. Fethon’s family later returned to Greece and immigrated to Australia in 1970. He played with South Melbourne Hellas as a young teenager and later moved to Brisbane before coming to Canberra in the early seventies where he played in the local league with Canberra Olympic. Fethon completed his BA/LLB at ANU in 1983, followed by a Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1989. As a Federal Government employee he has been with the Attorney-General's Department, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and the Australian Government Solicitor. Fethon believes there needs to be a bigger focus on the importance of providing real opportunities and support for the development of young players. Our strategy needs to consider how the game in Australia can benefit from the development of our young players and how we ensure there are real opportunities for young players within football. He still enjoys playing in the local Masters league and has had spells with ANU, University of Canberra and is currently with Belnorth. |
